ARRANGING A FUNERAL: 6 STEPS

What's involved when arranging a funeral?

Losing a loved one can be very stressful in many ways. There are people to call, things to do, and plans to make - all while processing the loss of someone you care about. Evermore Funerals exists to make this difficult time a little easier. Below are six steps involved in the process of arranging a funeral - everything from the time your loved one passes, to after the funeral is conducted.

1. THE SAD MOMENT

When someone you love passes away, it is important to give yourself some time to acknowledge your emotions and not rush into making any decisions. Ensuring you have some support around you is also a good idea. Then when you are ready, let us know and we will guide you through the next steps.

2. THE CALL, CARE and COLLECTION

If you are not up to calling us yourself, you may wish to get a family member, friend or facility staff to make the call. We will then make arrangements for your loved one to be brought into our care. The time frame for this will vary depending on where they passed away.

3. FUNERAL DIRECTOR MEETING

One of our funeral directors will call you to arrange a meeting at a time and place to suit you. At this meeting (usually called an 'arrangement'), we will ask some questions to ascertain the type of service you would like to farewell your loved one. There will be some documents to sign and an estimate of costs with an itemised list will be completed and given to you. You may also like to provide us with clothes for your loved one at this meeting. Please note that if you'd prefer to arrange a service over the phone we can book at time to do this.

4. ADMINISTRATION WORK and PREPARATION

The funeral director will make all the necessary bookings and will submit the required documentation to the relevant government agencies and the crematorium or cemetery. Your loved one will be prepared for their service by our experienced mortuary technician. The funeral director will call to confirm that everything is proceeding according to plan and to see if you have any final questions or concerns.

5. THE FUNERAL SERVICE

On the day of the service, we recommend close family arrive 20mins before a chapel service or 30 mins for a church or graveside service. Your loved one will be brought to the service in a hearse accompanied by at least two funeral directors. We will have everything set up and will make contact with you to check any last minute instructions. We will also be welcoming your guests, getting them to sign the condolence book, and handing out order of service booklets. If the service is followed by a burial, we will instruct everyone on the procedure for this. Afterwards, we will give you a final update and say our farewells.

6. FINAL STEPS

In the days after the service, we will generate an invoice and send it to you. Usually, there is a full 30 days to pay the invoice. We will call you to advise when the formal death certificate has arrived and generally check in to see how you are faring after the service. If you need more information, please call us on 07 3544 6880 (24/7).
